Compact Video Fluorescent Scope for Well Plate Viewing

Application:

Client required a fluorescence system to view samples contained in a series of 6 mm wells in a standard well plate.

Challenge:

Customer wanted a solution that would be much less expensive and more compact than a standard episcopic fluorescence microscope. The system also needed to be designed for use with inspection software and/or a video monitor instead of a traditional binocular system. Ease of use and simple procedure to train new users were important considerations as well.

Navitar Solution:

Navitar designed and manufactured a video fluorescent scope using components from existing Navitar systems, utilizing interchangeable fluorescent cubes. The system can be used in a fixed macro mode providing a view of the entire well. It can also be used in a micro mode where higher magnification allows viewing of microscopic samples within the wells. Both configurations are focusable, eliminating the need for a microscope style stand. Navitar was able to design the video fluorescent scope to be smaller and more compact than a traditional microscope. It provides a simple means of performing sophisticated, task-oriented fluorescence without the expense and complexity associated with a fully loaded research microscope.
